Advanced Test Technician09/1997 - 09/1998C-COR ElectronicsReedsville, PA

Process Improvements

  • Software updates— The measurement software was unstable at best. It was prone to crashing if the exact procedure was not followed. This would cause approximately a 20-minute downtime for each technician every time it happened. I modified the source code to prevent the crashes. Since my job at the time was a technician, not a programmer most of the work was done on my own time, or outside my normal working hours, because my work output was not allowed to suffer during the upgrade process.
  • TAPP (Technicians Against Preventable Problems) Team— My job at C-Cor was to test and align RF Cable Amplifiers. The alignment involved changing the values of certain resistor, capacitor, or inductors. As a technician I noticed that certain amplifier types would require making the same changes. I suggested to management the creation of a team to find solutions to this and other issues that we saw on a regular basis. Engineers would design an amplifier no issues arose with that type of amplifier they would never look at it again, but the technicians dealt with the amplifiers on a daily basis. The development of the team allowed the technicians to modify the selection of components that were installed in the manufacturing process. Doing this saved time, money, and resources by not placing components into the amplifier where they were not needed.
Electronic Technician06/1989 - 06/1993United States Navy, USS John F. Kennedy CV-67Norfolk, VA

Automated Carrier Landing System Radar Technician

  • Bit List— The radar system includes Built In Test equipment (AKA Bit List.) When I first started working on the radar system in September 1992 the Bit List contained approximately 85 entries. Over the period of 5 months I successfully corrected every entry in the list. Some of the errors existed in the system for 6 years, and were thought to be unfixable. A Senior Field Engineer from Tracor told me that was the first time he saw an empty Bit list. This combined with my demonstrated work ethic lead to me being offered a job with Tracor.
  • Lead Technician— I was not the senior radar technician by rank or time. Due to my demonstrated electronic expertise I was given the position of Lead technician on my radar system, and as Shift Supervisor for the entire radar division when we were deployed.
